"Nuclear Birky" one of the names of the interesting place in the Kharkiv region. At this point planned to build the Kharkov ATETs (details about the project can be read here: Wikipedia: Kharkiv ATETs

So in the 80s began construction of the first buildings for the workers of KhNPP. However, due to the Chernobyl tragedy and enact laws which prohibiting to build NPPs closer than 30 km from the city (Borky 26 km from Kharkiv), the project was canceled. However, by that time it was built two and started the construction of the third building.

It is believed that this object is located in the geopathic zone, which is often observed with strange phenomenas, including UFOs. Therefore, here is an appropriate legend of this place... :)

The history of the place regard to the time, long before the construction of nuclear power plants, namely, the mystery of the meteorite and "red lake", as well as the expedition of Rusinov.

In 1873 residents of the village of Borki in the early morning observed the fall of the meteorite. The small size of the fireball streaked across the sky from the southeast to the northwest, and disappeared behind the forest, where a few seconds later people heard a terrible roar and felt the earthquake. As a result, at the crash site of a meteorite the crater lake was formed, and in the sky for a few days people watched the unusual "northern" Lights ...

So, in the area of the event in 1885 was aimed first expedition led by Monstrov M.B. Unfortunately, the results of this expedition is unknown as archive was destroyed in the fighting after the 1917 revolution. In 1969 Rusinov A.S. organized a second expedition, and in 1974 began construction of the small town to study the mysterious substance of the Borkovsky meteorite... The matter of the expeditions is that "Red Lake" acquired its name in connection with a strange phenomenon: the stones on the bottom of the lake glowing the bright red light.

Scientists have extracted and studied the stones from the bottom of the lake, which had a strange alien chemical composition. In the study it was found out that the unusual glow appeared in contact with water, and it also has a rather pungent smell (something between sulfur and mint). In addition the substance had apparently psychotronic effect, as the old-timers of the village still remember a large number of suicides, strange deaths and missing scientists...

However, after the collapse of the USSR the expedition had to be abandoned without knowing of the secret of the "red lake", to explore all the properties of extraterrestrial matter. The bottom of th elake has been covered with silt and pretty vegetation, but closer to the coast sometimes you can see a faint dim light, and in the corridors of the abandoned buildings there is a strange red glow and hum, and if someone would be at that time around, it either goes missing, or going crazy ...

Update! The object began to dismantle, and how long it will "live" is unknown, so please, hurry to visit this interesting place! :-)

How to get to the unfinished Kharkіv NPP ?!

The easiest way to get there is by train from the Southern Railway Station. The timetable is to look for 'Birkу' station, and from there approximately 5 kilometers to abandoned buildings.
