What it is and why visit

Osykove Pleso is built in traditional ethno-style: a Ukrainian clay-and-straw cottage with a thatched roof, a village yard enclosed by a wicker fence, a carved wooden well. Everything recreates the traditions of Ukrainian peasant life from the 18th–19th centuries. You don’t just look — you experience how ancestors lived and worked.

The heart of the site is an authentic cottage-museum recreating the interior of a peasant household. Inside is a unique collection of everyday objects and folk art assembled over many years by the complex’s founder, Pavlo Zecter. Around it lies everything for leisure: a three-level sauna, fishing spots, gazebos and picnic areas.

A little about Chuhuiv

Every item in the cottage-museum has its own biography: embroidered rushnyk towels, chests, ceramics, tools. The founder spent years gathering them, and behind each object stands someone’s family, someone’s celebration, someone’s daily labour. Those details are what bring the exhibition to life.

The name says it all: «pleso» means a calm, quiet stretch of river. In the evenings the water carries that very stillness that makes the drive out from the city worthwhile.

Getting there

By car: about 40 km south-east of Kharkiv. The complex is on the eastern edge of Chuhuiv, on the Siverskyi Donets riverbank.

Public transport: trains and buses run from Kharkiv to Chuhuiv; from there take local transport to the outskirts.
