Memorial of Heavenly Hundred Heroes, Lviv

Memorial space is a place of memory about events, heroes and a place for reflection about what we fought for and what heavy losses we were going to change, a place that should not only remind us, but also fill us with optimism.

The memorial complex combines spaces components - the Square of memory and honors with a memorial stella and the Bridge Museum in memory of the events of the Revolution of Dignity. The main material of the complex is kortenivska steel. A metal that changes over time and becomes a rusty metal. Symbolically, this rusty surface conveys the time of events that took place on the square - burning fire, smoke, burnt barricades. Stella and the square - a place of memory and veneration.

Stella personifies the barricade, on it are portraits of heroes. Under the stella, lighting is provided, in combination with Corteno conveys the feeling of a burning fire. This is the place for a thousand candles that will burn, as then on the Maidan in moments of farewell to the heroes. From afar, this lighting creates the illusion of an opening-scar that has remained in the heart and history of the Ukrainian people. The bridge performs a memorial function - symbolically resembles the events on Institutskaya Street. Structurally, it is a platform and coverings. Plates symbolize the obstacles in the way of the heroes, it is also 5 days (February 18 - 22, 2014), in which the majority of the protesters died, the coverings symbolize shields and barricades.

The coverings of the bridge cut through the expressions of the heroes of Heavenly Hundred, which will be emotionally emphasized by the weather. Rainy weather conveys sums - symbolically eternal tears. And the solar fills him with life, a brighter future - for which the heroes of Heavenly Hundred stood.

The created complex conveys pride for a people who have risen their dignity, love, grief, loss of loved ones, death, the birth of consciousness of a new generation, a sense of being a citizen, a person. With this project, the authors depart from the stereotype, like Maidan, who stood for a new future and changes.

How to get there:
The memorial is located at 6 Pidvalna Street, which is the city center. The best way to get to the Market Square is from Pidvalna Street, then turn left and walk through the park area, in 300 m you will see a memorial.
