One of the most interesting and beautiful places of Kharkiv region is located in Dvurichansky district. It is represented by a long ridge of chalk hills, similar to miniature chalk mountains stretching for several tens of kilometers along the Oskol river. The most interesting part is located between the villages of Kamyanka and Novomlynsk. Here we can see the chalk cliffs of different shapes and gullies which resemble a small canyon. If you climb a high hill, you'll be able to serve a picturesque view of the river Oskol valley - valley of the main river of the Dvurichansky district.

There is also a high beautiful chalk cliff located in the Northern part of the village Novomlynsk. Even a larger and more beautiful rock, which is an old chalk quarry, is situated in the village of Kamenka, next to the bridge over the river. You can find a good source just downstream. In these places you can easily meet so called "devil's fingers" - shells of fossil mollusks belemnites, which remind modern squid. These mollusks dwelled in the sea, which reigned here 70 million Years ago.

There are very few people in the area. However, good beaches and convenient parking places near the river are also few. But if you drive along the river by car or won't be idle to walk along, you'll always a suitable place. The best beach in the area is located near the village of Krasne Pershe, on the opposite bank from the hamlet Petrovka.

How to get to these places? The simplest way is to travel by car. You should drive from Kharkiv to Kupyansk, then - to the Dvurichna, then drive north in the direction of Kamyanka. It is easy to go down to the river through Novomlynsk, Kamyanka or Krasne Pershe. There is a good unpaved road along the river at the foot of the hills. The distance from Kharkov (about 150 km) is overcome in two and a half hours. It is easier to take drinking water from the city. There is also a bus Kharkiv-Dvurichna. However, from the Dvurichna itself is quite far from the chalk hills to walk by feet; how to go transport to neighboring villages, I do not know. Once I saw a small regular bus on the road near Kamyanka.

If you don’t have a car, then the most convenient way is by rail. However, it will take more time - three trains with a change – Kharkov-Hrakove, Hrakove-Kupyansk, Kupyansk Nezhdanovskoe (the direction to Poplar). Behind Dvurichna station, quite beautiful and neat station, the chalk hills start. They are clearly visible from the train window. Do not miss the opportunity to admire the scenery! Further you’ll see Grenikovka station – summer pioneer camp. The camp begins right from the station and goes deep into the forest. Exit the station Nezhdanovskoe. In a half-hour walk through a pine forest and the village of Petrovka, you’ll find yourself on the bank of the river. To the South of Petrovka, in the valley on the border with the forest there is a well where you can get some water. Nice beach and chalk hills are located on the other side of the river, so that you need to cross it. We wore rain capes on our backpacks, and our backpacks were safe while we swam across the river.
