Fifty-two hectares of lakes, fountains and pine-lined paths a few minutes’ walk from the railway station. Bucha City Park is a rare case where «city park» means a real green escape rather than a patch of grass with benches — the kind of place you can easily lose half a day in.

History: a park not yet twenty years old

Bucha City Park was laid out in 2011 to mark the 110th anniversary of the city’s founding. For a park, that’s a very young age — there are no ancient oaks or aristocratic legends here. What it has instead is thoughtful design, modern infrastructure and that rare quality of a space built for people, not just ticked off a list.

Over the years the park became the hub of city life. It has hosted cycling races, running events, music masterclasses and even a Ukrainian championship in rapid and blitz chess for young players. The green theatre and open-air stage turned it into a concert venue as well.

A city that came back to life

The name Bucha echoed around the world in 2022. The city endured occupation and immense tragedy, and for many people it is still defined by those events. But Bucha is above all a living city that is rebuilding — and the park became one of the symbols of that return to normal life: the fountains run again, music fills the stage again, children run again.

Coming here is not «dark tourism.» It’s a way to see Bucha as it actually is: green, calm and resilient. The best thing you can do for the city is to visit, walk around, have a coffee and spend money at local businesses.

The park is in the centre of Bucha on Instytutska Street, close to the railway station and the main roads through the city.

Bucha pairs naturally with neighbouring Irpin — the two towns are essentially one continuous settlement. In a single day you can stroll through the park, stop at a local café and still have time for Irpin’s own attractions. It’s a solid, easygoing day trip from Kyiv.
