"House of a Thousand Faces", also known as "House of Chimeras", or "House of Golovan" - an architectural monument, which is also the home of Lutsk sculptor Mykola Golovan, who is constantly completing the house and creating new sculptures around the house. The house is located in the old part of town, near the castle of Lubart and the Church of Peter and Paul.

Mykola Golovan
The sculptor was born in the village of Teremno, near Lutsk, in 1943. There he spent his childhood. The parents wanted their son to become an artist, so immediately after school he successfully entered the Ivan Trush Lviv School of Applied Arts.

Mykola had experience working in various spheres of life, he worked: as a porter and in a circus, but he never forgot about art, creativity, in particular, sculpture, and also regularly sent his drawings to the press, where they were willingly printed. Mykola is now more than 70 years old, and he works on new sculptures every day, he is always happy when people come to his house and take photos. He often goes to his yard and communicates with tourists, as he has time to conduct tours and happily tells the story of his house.

History of the house
In Soviet times, Mykola's family lost their home, so they began looking for a new home. The sculptor always dreamed of his own house, where everything would be necessary for him to be able to create every day. He was engaged in artistic activity throughout his life, working for the benefit of his hometown for about 20 years. As a sign of gratitude, the sculptor asked the local authorities for a domain for his own home. Mykola received a domain on the current Old Town Reserve, where there was a swamp in the 1980s.

The house was designed for him by the Volyn architect Rostyslav Metelnytsky, and the rest of the construction, decoration of the yard and the house itself Mykola Golovan began to create with his own hands, what he has been still doing today. However, the house is still not privately owned by Mykola, as there is a state reserve there.

Sculptures
Throughout the yard, on and in the house itself, there are many sculptures of different styles, which Mykola creates himself. In total, more than 500 works. Above the entrance is a family monogram - NMG
On the pediment of the house there is a bas-relief depicting all members of the sculptor's family. It weighs one and a half tons and is made of green sandstone.

There is an "Italian" courtyard, a smithy. In the courtyard there are many different details - blocks of different stones and many large and small sculptures that have not yet found their place in the composition. The house has an original decoration not only outside but also inside. Surrounded by a fireplace fence, behind which are also a number of sculptures. Recently, multi-colored bottles have been decorating the apartment - a new hobby of the sculptor. Everything here has its place and meaning, every detail is a separate story. For example, the backyard is dedicated to family memories, where under the cover of an old chestnut tree there is a sad angel and a madonna with a baby, as well as a whole collection of works by Mykola's son, who died young.

Interesting Facts
Golovan's house was included in the list of Volyn wonders in 2008.

In 2015, an 18-minute film about Mykola Golovan was presented at a screening of documentaries by young Ukrainian directors in Lutsk. Lucians were delighted, and the sculptor himself said that after that he wanted to live and work even more.

Opposite the estate is a sculpture of the Virgin and Child, which was also created by Mykola Golovan.
