Armenian Cathedral that is located in the ancient part of Lviv represents the deep history of Armenian diaspora that lived in this city since the 14th century (according to the version, highlighted in historical documents). The king, Danylo Halytskyi, let Armenians to settle there and in a while this diaspora became one of the richest and most influential. Originally it was established by Dore, but each generation changed the way Cathedral look and added new elements. The exact date of start of building process is undefinable as for now.

Unfortunately, in 1676 the Cathedral was diminished because of the fire. The restoration process longed for 50 years and in 1726 workers set the famous statue of St. Khrystofor. This sculpture had to symbolise Cathedral’s protection. However, this statue did not help. In 1773 the awful story repeated. Though, this time it took only 6 years to return the former condition. Telling the truth, it was not the former look - after this restoration the form of central building and bell tower significantly changed. In 1908 the architect named Minchevskyi modified facade and it was replaced to Krakivska street. According to the pictures of Cathedral of the 20th century, we can assume that it looks pretty same to nowadays version.

But then were the years of Soviet Union influence. Laws of those days reached even Lviv and Armenian Archbishopric were eliminated and Cathedral was closed. Throughout the years, it was turning from arts gallery to museum dedicated to Lenin. And only in 2000 this building went to local Armenian priesthood. The first worship after these events happened in 2001, specifically, in January.

Nowadays, Cathedral consists of 3 small courtyards. Each of them has its own name and in the “heart” of these intertwined courtyards is located the Cathedral itself. There are various paintings of such artists as Yan Rozen and Yuzef Mekhoffer that portray remarkable citizens of Lviv, particularly, metropolitan Andrei Sheptytskyi. Besides, in one of the courtyards there is the beautiful Calvary Chapel that attracts many tourists all over the world and makes this Cathedral so famous.
