- Abandoned sanatorium «Rai-Olenevka»
Not so long ago abandoned sanatorium for treatment and recreation of the patients from different hospitals in Kharkiv became the spot where people can observe neglected buildings and stalkers sсenery. The place for sanatorium was chosen pretty well, entire territory of the sanatorium “Ray-Olenivka” consists of 25 hectares including garden and park. Sanatorium located in the midst of pine forest and there is also nice pond on the territory.
This recreational sanatorium had 5 units in total, 3 of which served for rehabilitation:
- Gastroenterological department for adults;
- Gastroenterological department for mothers and children;
- Department for people who had operations on digestive organs;
- Department for rehabilitation of parents with kids which suffered from exposition on Chernobyl nuclear reactor.
Sanatorium had buildings with rooms that could accommodate 2,3, 4 people respectively. One of these buildings could be found according to the following coordinates 49.9449996, 36.0736299. Interesting fact it seems like it was 2 buildings which later were united in 1. If you walk from this building along the pond you can see 1 story building, which most likely was canteen. As of end of 2015 you can get inside of this building through basement using following coordinates 49.9468016, 36.0785758. Inside this basement you can find impressive hallways, which could be perfect scene for horror movies, containing fridges, trolleys and so on.
Across from canteen there is security guard, so we wouldn’t recommend you to go there. Instead you should check out soviet futuristic construction- place where mineral water well located 49.947706, 36.075958. Near the well you can find one of the most beautiful buildings- sanatorium’s club which had big auditorium, library and video hall. You can find it using following coordinates 49.947844, 36.074574.
Abandoned sanatorium located only 12km from Kharkiv in pisochinskiy village Ray- Olenivka. You can get there easily either using commuter train and get off at Ray-Olenivka station or by marshrutka bus which takes off from Holodna Gora metro station heading in the direction of Pesochina ( ask driver to stop near the road to Ray-Olenivka and walk 10min from there).
It’s worth mentioning that some buildings on the territory of sanatorium are under security control, although the ones above mentioned with coordinates weren’t under protection as of end of 2015.
